These are the terms for using and publishing stimuli from the KDEF stimulus set (The Karolinska Directed Emotional Faces; Lundqvist, Flykt, & Öhman, 1998) or AKDEF stimulus set (The Averaged KDEF; Lundqvist & Litton, 1998) in scientific research and scientific publications.

1.USING KDEF or AKDEF STIMULI FOR RESEARCH
- The KDEF and AKDEF stimuli may be used for non-commercial scientific research purposes only.
- Beyond this limit, researchers are free to use the stimuli in any way they like!
- The KDEF and AKDEF stimuli may NOT be redistributed in any way without written consent from the copyright holder (Karolinska Institutet, Psychology section.
- The KDEF and AKDEF stimuly may NOT be used/redistributed openly in apps, online web services or similar.
- If you use the KDEF or AKDEF stimuli in your research, please add the below reference to your manuscript’s reference list:

To the author:
- If a KDEF or AKDEF stimulus is included in a figure in your manuscript; please include information about the KDEF or AKDEF image id in the figure text (F01HAS or similar).
- If possible, the manuscript should also include a list of the KDEF or AKDEF ids of all the stimuli used in the experiment, under Methods>Stimuli or similar
To the publisher:
- Researchers may always include sample images from KDEF or AKDEF in his/her manuscript when said manuscript is a doctoral thesis OR is a manuscript submitted to a scientific journal. A publisher may regard this mail as a written consent for such publication, or contact me (contact info below) directly if needed.
